Expression of Interest for producing VALORISE project documentary

Background and context

The Kenyan dairy industry is a key sector, contributing approximately 4% to the national GDP. With a projected doubling of dairy product consumption by 2030, accompanied by a surge in processed products like yoghurt and cheese among others, the sector faces both opportunities and challenges. This growth in processing implies increased side and waste streams volumes, that presents increased environmental risks in the industry. However, it also presents opportunities for potential valorization of side streams, such as whey, into valuable food or feed products as part of a circular bioeconomy (CBE), that shift from linear production-consumption models towards circularity for sustainable sector development.

In view of the economic significance of the dairy sector in Kenya, the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) is partnering with Rosklide University and Danish Technical University and Arla Foods in Denmark, Egerton University and the Alliance of CIAT and Bioversity and East and Southern Africa Dairy Association in Kenya to implement a project on circular bioeconomy for the Kenyan dairy sector (VALORISE). VALORISE seeks to examine how CBE principles can be leveraged in the growing and modernizing dairy industry in Kenya towards sustainability.

Production of Short Documentary (Video)

As part of the project, we seek to develop a short video to shed light and perspectives by sector stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges for valorization of side streams in the Kenyan dairy sector. The documentary will serve to highlight current practices related to side stream utilization, show cases businesses that have tapped into the opportunities, and bring out perspectives from other players in the dairy industry beyond Kenya.
This expression of interest is inviting consultant firms that can offer the service of producing this short documentary. We invite interest parties to submit an expression of interest (EoI) that outlines the concept (including an outline of the script) and process (including timeline that will not exceed 1 month) of producing the short documentary.

The selected firm will work with the VALORISE team to fine tune the concept and agree on the potential list of stakeholders to be approached for the video.
