Naoto Kanehira is senior strategy and operations officer at the Office of the World Bank Group Human Resources Vice President, coordinating the institution’s senior management initiatives. He has led and contributed to operations and initiatives on science, technology, and innovation (STI) at the corporate, country, regional, and global levels at the World Bank, co-led the work on STI for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Roadmaps at the UN Inter-Agency Task Team on Science, Technology and Innovation, and served as the secretariat for the Bank’s COVID-19 vaccine delivery taskforce. He is also a visiting scholar at the Center for Science Diplomacy, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and a steering group member for the OECD on STI financing for the SDGs. Prior to joining the World Bank, he cofounded a mobile internet software start-up in 1998 and worked for McKinsey & Company from 2000 to 2010. He holds an MPA from Harvard University, as a student of Prof. Calestous Juma, and an MSc in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
